JATRO secures up to 100.000 ha of plantation land in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.
Signing Ceremony between with JATRO and Truong Thanh Furniture Corporation’s (TTFC) seals Partnership for largest Jatropha Plantation Project in Vietnam
With effect as of 21 January 2011 Jatro Singapore Pte Ltd and Truong Thanh Furniture Corporation have agreed to jointly operate and expand Jatropha plantations in Vietnam in order to increase and secure the long-term supply of feedstock, in particular to the international airline industry.
Founded in 1993, TTFC has grown to become one of the leading companies in the wood processing industry in Vietnam with more than 7.000 professional and skilled workers. To secure its continuous timber supply, TTFC is cultivating its own forest plantations on 9.000 ha and has certified access to a total land bank of more than 130.000 ha of suitable land in Vietnam. The company focuses on manufacturing wooden furniture and flooring for the domestic market as well as export. TTFC operates seven factories and two forest plantation facilities in Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnamese provinces of Binh Duong, Dak Lak and Phu Yen. Together, the JV partners wish to explore the commercial potential of planting and intercropping Jatropha on their secured land banks in Vietnam, aiming to produce attractive returns for investors and for their sustainable plantation business to have a positive social and environmental impact while at the same time contributing to greenhouse-gas reduction. By pooling their respective strengths, JATRO and TTFC intend to optimise land use through development of forestry-based ecosystem assets. The diversification of asset and revenue types seasonally will allow careful risk mitigation and maximisation of value achievable from all land.
