JATRO is the renewable fuels company that pioneered the cultivation, manufacturing and marketing of certified aviation fuel and by-products from Jatropha with secured access to the majority of the world's Jatropha germplasm.
JATRO has developed a safe, tested and proven feedstock for conversion into certified renewable “Green“ aviation fuel that can seamlessly replace kerosene Jet A1 fuel, and can currently be priced competitively with it. The bio-kerosene produced from jatropha feedstock has been certified and is widely recognized by the airline industry as the best source of alternative green jet fuel with fuel properties superior to conventional Jet A-1 fuel.
JATRO leads a multi-stakeholder initiative including select international airlines, technical, engineering & licensing partners, scientific & research institutes, oil majors, Bio Jet Fuel Project Business consultants, Government Ministries, NGOs, the Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy Germany (AIREG) et. al., to accelerate the production of crude Jatropha oil as a source for aviation bio jet fuel.
JATRO has executed and continues to form business alliances with Governments, land owners and cooperatives to secure land use rights for several hundred thousand hectares of non-agricultural lands, primarily at key locations in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos and Sri Lanka on which feedstock for biofuels like jatropha may be grown.
JATRO has closed the loop from "seed to fuel nozzle“, i.e. between feedstock cultivation and full market integration by bringing together farmers, plantation managers, technology providers, oil-refiners, oil majors, governments and airlines to spearhead the commercialization of sustainable CJO and bio-kerosene production.
JATRO’s proven and tested business model embodies elements of economic, environmental and social benefits as it creates multiple jobs, alleviates poverty and combines food and fuel crops in a sustainable way. Our unique intercropping methodology contributes significantly to sustainable food production and generates immediate job and business opportunities for impoverished rural communities.
JATRO has the technology, experience and international partnerships to manage the entire jatropha value chain effectively. Creating a sustainable biofuel supply while at the same time supporting rural development and alleviating poverty are top priorities for JATRO.
JATRO’s plantation practice, cultivation methodology and production of energy crops is fully in line with the renewable energy, biofuel and rural development policies and principles of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
JATRO is one of only a few jatropha plantation companies which have undergone rigorous testing and passed all sustainability criteria required by the Aviation Industry, various governments and the World Bank to become an internationally accredited producer. Management has chosen jatropha as the feedstock of choice over other biofuels because of the inherent sustainable characteristics of jatropha.
