Depending on the combination and portfolio of downstream activities, jatropha plants offer multiple energy solutions, including
(1) The production of crude Jatropha oil;
(2) The fermentation of the seedcake into biogas;
(3) The subsequent sale of green electricity produced as a result of the above; and
(4) The sale of the residue of the press-seed cake as bio-fertilizer.
On average, a plot of 20’000 ha will generate 39’200 metric tons of oil, 84’000 metric tons of organic fertilizer and at least 2 MW of electric power yearly.
Jatropha oil was successfully tested by international corporations for all major engine applications including aircraft jet engines. It has been certified and is used as green fuel by leading truck and power generating companies as well as shipping lines and aircraft engine manufacturers. JATRO has prepared plans to refine bio-diesel and jet fuel oils that are far superior to fossil based diesel and kerosene. In comparison to a conventional biodiesel transesterification process, carefully selected enzymes will be used as biocatalysts to optimize the conversion of Jatropha plant oil into clean, carbon neutral and high quality e-biodiesel.
